The Fourth's going to be busy

6/28/2017

Schoharie County will have two chances to celebrate Independence Day, beginning Saturday in Cobleskill and then continuing on Tuesday, the 4th, in Sharon Springs. Saturday’s celebration will be held at the Cobleskill Fairgrounds, beginning at 10am with a flea market and vendors, kids games, a bounce house, and visits from Mickey and Minnie. There will be plenty of food and from 3-8pm, music by MSM Music Entertainment. At 11:30am there will be a Lil’ Firecracker contest for kids up to five years old; registration starts at 11am and there’s a $50 top prize. At 5pm, there will be a parade with the theme, “Celebrate America,” with lineup at Union and Lark Street to the Fairgrounds. Fireworks at dusk will wrap up the day. Then, on Tuesday in Sharon Springs, the huge Schoharie County parade will step off from Dairyland at 10am on Route 20. The parade theme there is “Portrait of an American Town.” The one-mile parade will feature floats and entries from all over the county and beyond and will wrap up at the school Athletic Fields off Chestnut Street. Following the parade there will be plenty of fun on the front lawn of Sharon Springs Central School. There will be a chicken and rib BBQ, and from 11am-2pm, music by the Ira Metzger Band. All parade entries will be announced at the reviewing stand so participants are urged to register online at Sharonspringschamber.com or by calling Ron Ketelsen, Chamber president, at 860-5513.
